Amid political unrest in Georgia triggered by the controversial 2024 parliamentary elections and the suspension of EU accession talks, the streets of Tbilisi have become a vibrant hub of resistance. Young activists, artists, and musicians are using their creative forms of expression to take a stand against the government’s authoritarian tendencies and its rapprochement with Russia.
The club scene, especially venues such as Bassiani, has become a center of resistance. Here, music, art, and politics merge into a powerful expression of protest. But the state is responding with repression: leading activists have been arrested, and the government has described the recent protests as attempts to seize power.
In this keynote, Valley Dolly highlights how Tbilisi’s subculture functions not only as an aesthetic space but also as a political instrument. She shows how music, art, and a sense of community become tools of resistance and what risks are associated with them.
Valley Dolly is a DJ and multimedia artist at the forefront of Tbilisi’s underground scene, where music and community converge in radical ways. As a resident at Bassiani, the city’s internationally renowned techno institution, and at Romantica Stuttgart, she has become a vital force in shaping the sound and spirit of contemporary club culture.
Her sets draw deeply from the New York underground house movement, honoring the queer and trans pioneers who laid the foundation for global club culture. With a style that blends playful house grooves, uplifting rhythms, and unexpected textures, Valley Dolly’s music radiates joy while carrying an undercurrent of resistance.

Junge Aktivisten, Künstler und Musiker nutzen ihre kreativen Ausdrucksformen, um sich gegen die autoritären Tendenzen der Regierung und ihre Annäherung an Russland zu wehren.
