Mit ihrer gemeinsamen Faszination für die Ursprünge der elektronischen Musik fanden sich Tim und Dominik ein Jahr nach Abschluss ihres gemeinsamen Studiums der Audiokommunikation und -technik in einem Betonraum voller Schallplatten und einer großen Glasfassade in der Nähe des Hamburger Schanzenviertels wieder. Es war Zeit für einen Workshop! Der eine als Referent zum Thema modulare Synthesizer, der andere als Organisator der gesamten Veranstaltung, und beide waren sich in einem Punkt einig: Sie wollten jedem, der sich grundlegend für elektronische Musik interessiert, ohne Zugangsbarrieren Wissen und Grundkenntnisse vermitteln.

Nach einem weiteren Workshop, diesmal in Hannover, wurde die KONTAKT-Tour ins Leben gerufen, mit dem Ziel, lokalen elektronischen Musikszenen zu helfen, einen regelmäßigen Wissensaustausch untereinander aufzubauen.

Die Idee hinter der Kampagne ist es, diesen Geist innerhalb weniger Wochen in Regionen und Städten zu verbreiten, in denen es noch keine hohe Dichte an Workshops oder Austauschmöglichkeiten gibt, wie sie wöchentlich in Ballungsräumen wie Berlin oder Köln zu finden sind. Zu diesem Zweck wird die Tour jeden Tag in einer anderen Stadt in Deutschland Halt machen und in Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Veranstaltern eine Reihe verschiedener Workshops anbieten. Ziel ist es, Menschen zu erreichen und zu vernetzen, die interessiert sind, deren kulturelles und soziales Ökosystem in der elektronischen Musikszene jedoch noch nicht existiert oder noch nicht ausreichend vernetzt ist. Im Kern verfolgt das Projekt einen „Empowerment”-Ansatz, um nachhaltige Fähigkeiten, Selbstwirksamkeit und kreative Autonomie im Bereich der elektronischen Musik zu fördern.

Ausgewählte Experten aus dem ganzen Land und lokale Musiker werden in Workshops und Diskussionen ihr Fachwissen in verschiedenen Bereichen weitergeben, darunter Musikproduktion, Live-Auftritte, Labelarbeit, DIY-Entwürfe für Heimstudios und vieles mehr.

Was bleibt, ist ein Wissensaustausch für alle Niveaus und eine Toolbox voller Werkzeuge, mit denen sich die jeweilige regionale Szene organisch vernetzen und neu beleben kann. Abgerundet werden die Besuche durch Live- und DJ-Sets. Ein rundes Programm, das die vielfältigen Facetten der elektronischen Musikszene aufgreift, mit dem Ziel, KONTAKT nicht nur innerhalb der Szene einer Stadt, sondern auch über Regionen hinweg zu schaffen.

This Keynote will be held in German. 

With a shared fascination for the origins of electronic music, Tim and Dominik found themselves in a concrete room full of records and a large glass facade near Hamburg’s Schanzenviertel district a year after completing their joint studies in audio communication and technology. It was workshop time! One as a speaker on the topic of modular synthesizers, the other as the organizer of the whole event, and both agreed on one thing: to impart knowledge and basic skills to anyone with a fundamental interest in electronic music, without any barriers to entry. 

After another workshop, this time in Hanover, the KONTAKT tour was launched with the aim of helping local electronic music scenes to establish regular knowledge exchange among themselves. 

The idea behind the campaign is to spread this spirit within a few weeks to areas and cities where there is not yet a high density of workshops or opportunities for exchange, as can be found weekly in metropolitan areas such as Berlin or Cologne. To this end, the tour will stop in a different city in Germany every day and offer a range of different workshops in collaboration with local organizers. The aim is to reach and connect people who are interested but whose cultural and social ecosystem in the electronic music scene does not yet exist or is not yet sufficiently connected. At its core, the project pursues an approach of “empowerment” to promote sustainable skills, self-efficacy, and creative autonomy in the field of electronic music.

Curated experts from across the country and local musicians will share their expertise in a variety of areas, including music production, live acting, label work, DIY blueprints for home studios, and much more, through workshops and discussions.

What will remain is an exchange of knowledge for all levels and a toolbox full of tools with which the respective regional scene can organically connect and revitalize itself. The visits will be rounded off with live and DJ sets. A well-rounded program that addresses the diverse facets of the electronic music scene with the aim of creating KONTAKT not only within the scene of a city, but also across regions.
