Since 1988, Kino im Sprengel in Hannover’s Nordstadt has offered a politically engaged and aesthetically often daring program away from mainstream cinema. The program is also characterized by a high proportion of invited guests, numerous local to international collaborations and the cultivation of analog film projection. The work of the voluntary operating collective, which is also unique in Germany, has been honored time and again, most recently (2023) with the award of the German Cinematheque Association and the Cinema Program Award of Nordmedia.
